Socorro 2025: Return to the Revillagigedo Islands
Some places are so good you have to go back. Our return to Socorro carried a small group out to the remote Revillagigedo Islands, far off the tip of Baja, for another week among the giants. We kicked off with a marine-life identification lecture to sharpen everyone's eyes, then set out for the open Pacific and the big-animal diving that makes this archipelago legendary.
Day by day
Days 1-2
Gathering in Cabo and the crossing
We met at the tip of Baja, talked through what to watch for, and boarded our liveaboard for the long overnight crossing to the islands. As the mainland fell away and the water deepened to indigo, anticipation built for what was waiting out there.
Days 3-4
El Canyon and the first giants
Our first dives at the archipelago set the tone immediately. At El Canyon and the surrounding sites, giant oceanic mantas swept in to hover overhead, dolphins buzzed the group, and sharks patrolled the cleaning stations. Every dive felt like an event.
Days 5-6
Roca Partida and Cabo Pearce
We dove the iconic open-ocean pinnacle of Roca Partida, a lone rock surrounded by walls of fish and cruising sharks, and the manta-rich slopes of Cabo Pearce, where the giants returned again and again. Pure, wild, big-water diving at its very best.
Days 7-9
The long way home
We turned north for the crossing back to Baja, the group quiet and grinning, already scheming a third trip. Socorro has that effect on people.
From the trip

Giant mantas overhead, dolphins at arm's reach, sharks in the blue, and the unmistakable pull of one of the planet's great pelagic frontiers. Socorro rewarded the return many times over.
