Not every adventure is exotic, and some of the best ones are about people and place. This whirlwind holiday strung together the American East Coast in early winter, from the cozy chill of the Northeast down to the moss-draped grace of the Carolina Lowcountry.
Day by day
Days 1-3
Early winter in the Northeast
We began amid the crisp late-November air of upstate New York, all bare trees and warm kitchens, the kind of cozy seasonal start that makes a road trip feel like a proper holiday.
Days 4-6
Charleston and the Lowcountry
We pointed south to Charleston, wandering its historic streets and a grand old Lowcountry plantation, soaking up the Spanish moss, the genteel pace, and the unmistakable charm of the coastal South.
Days 7-9
Down the coast and home
We wound our way further down the coast for a final stretch of easy Southern days before the journey home, holiday spirits high.
From the trip
From a Northeastern early winter to the warm grace of the Lowcountry, this was a reminder that a great road trip is as much about the people and the pace as the miles.
