Napa & Sonoma: A Wine Country Escape
Not every adventure needs a passport or a regulator. Sometimes the call is California wine country, a rented house among the vines, and a week of unhurried tasting. We made a glorious go of Napa and Sonoma, with good friends, great pours, and golden afternoons rolling between the valleys.
Day by day
Days 1-2
Settling into the valley
We drove up, stocked the house, and eased into wine-country mode with creekside tastings in the historic, oak-shaded corners of Glen Ellen and Sonoma, sparkling wine and pinot in hand.
Days 3-4
Caves and cabernet
We crossed into Napa for the big reds, tasting cabernet deep in cool stone caves and out among the famous valley vineyards, with long lunches and even longer views.
Days 5-6
A sparkling finish
We rounded out the week with a sparkling-wine afternoon and a few last leisurely pours, savoring the easy rhythm of the valley before heading home.
From the trip
Sparkling, pinot and big Napa cabernet, candlelit caves, and the golden glow of California wine country. Proof that an SXT escape is sometimes best measured in great glasses shared with good friends.
