Bonaire: Shore-Diving Capital of the Caribbean
Bonaire is the shore-diving capital of the Caribbean, a whole island ringed by protected reef, where the rule is simply dive when you want, as much as you want. Our group spent a glorious week chasing that freedom, logging dive after dive on the legendary sites, restoring coral, and slipping beneath the pier after dark.
Day by day
Day 1
Touchdown on a dive island
After a long travel day we landed on Bonaire, picked up the trucks that are practically standard issue here, and gathered for orientation. The whole island is your dive site, and we could hardly wait for first light.
Days 2-3
First bubbles & coral restoration
We eased in with a check-out dive and the bright, fish-packed sprawl of Bari Reef, then strung together day after day of easy two- and three-tank diving. A highlight was rolling up our sleeves on a reef-restoration dive at Klein Bonaire, hands-on conservation in the middle of paradise, alongside favorites like Windsock and Bachelor's Beach.
Days 4-5
The National Park, Salt Pier & the Hilma Hooker
We ranged into the wild north for National Park diving, then ticked off the island's icons: the surreal pillars of Salt Pier, the famous Hilma Hooker wreck, and the cascading reef of 1000 Steps. Night dives under the pier turned the whole reef nocturnal, a completely different world after dark.
Day 6
Last dives, Invisibles & Alice in Wonderland
On our final day we saved two beauties for last, Invisibles and the aptly named Alice in Wonderland, squeezing in every possible minute underwater before reluctantly drying our gear. A farewell dinner sent the week off in style.
From the trip

Easy shore access, world-class reef, hands-on coral restoration, and the freedom to dive on your own clock, Bonaire reminds you why it's the benchmark every other shore-diving destination is measured against.
