Grand Cayman: New Year's Eve Diving
There may be no better way to ring in a new year than underwater, surrounded by dive buddies and the warm, impossibly clear water of Grand Cayman. We left the holiday hustle behind and escaped to the island for a week of dive-as-much-as-you-want freedom, capped by a New Year's Eve none of us will forget.
Day by day
Days 1-2
Escape to the island
We made our way to Grand Cayman and traded winter for turquoise. With the gear staged steps from the water, the only real plan was simple: dive, relax, and soak up the company of good friends in paradise.
Day 3
Unlimited shore diving and a night dive
Our first full day set the tone, with unlimited beach diving right off the wall and a group night dive after dark, when the reef trades its daytime cast for octopus, lobster and the eerie glow of a torch-lit wall.
Day 4
Crystal Caves and more diving
We surfaced for an afternoon ashore at the otherworldly Crystal Caves, with their towering stalactites and hidden chambers, then slipped right back in for more diving. The beauty of Cayman is that the reef never feels far away.
Day 5
New Year's Eve underwater
We spent the last day of the year doing exactly what we came for, then gathered to ring in the new one together. Diving by day, celebrating by night, with the whole group toasting to a brand new year in paradise.
Days 6-7
Bioluminescence and island exploring
A highlight came after dark: a kayak out to the bioluminescent bay, where every paddle stroke lit the water with blue-green sparks. We rounded out the trip exploring the island before saying our reluctant goodbyes.
From the trip

Unlimited diving, a night-glowing bay, the wonder of the Crystal Caves, and a New Year's toast with dive buddies turned friends. Grand Cayman knows how to send off one year and welcome the next.
