Cozumel: Drift Diving the Palancar Reefs
Cozumel is the kind of place that ruins you for ordinary diving. The current does the work while you simply fly along towering coral walls in absurdly clear water. Our group spent an easy, sun-drenched week on the island, drifting the legendary Palancar reefs by day and soaking up the laid-back rhythm of San Miguel between dives.
Day by day
Day 1
Welcome to the island
We arrived to that unmistakable Cozumel warmth, settled into our base near San Miguel, and gathered the group to plan the week. The reef was just offshore, and everyone was itching to get wet.
Days 2-4
Flying the Palancar walls
We fell into the glorious Cozumel routine: roll off the boat, settle into the current, and let the reef glide past. The Palancar reefs delivered swim-throughs, dramatic coral spires, turtles and eagle rays, with day after day of effortless drift diving in water so clear it feels like flying.
Day 5
El Cielo and the south
We drifted the bright southern reefs and made time for El Cielo, the famous shallow sand flat scattered with starfish, where the light turns the whole sea to glass. Pure, easy magic.
Days 6-7
Ruins, a bee sanctuary and island time
We traded fins for a land day, visiting the Mayan ruins of San Gervasio and a Mayan bee sanctuary, then gave ourselves over to the island: a little spa time, a buggy adventure, and the unhurried charm of San Miguel before our farewell.
From the trip

Crystalline water, effortless drift diving on world-class reef, and the easy joy of island life. Cozumel is the rare destination that is as relaxing as it is spectacular, and our group left already planning the next round.
